To the Party Organiser...
Here are some recommendations for your consideration.
Number of Supervisors needed
We all know how excited children get at a
party. In our experience the more supervisors the better (especially
with mixed age groups or children under 5)
Age range/Number of Adults
0-2 years/ 1 adult for every 5 kids
2-3 years/ 1 adult for every 8
3-5 years/ 1 adult for every 10
5-11 years/ 1 adult for every 15
Supervisors need to be concentrating on where
the children are at all times. The best way to do this is for the
supervisors to get involved in the games and activities, as children
follow by example.
Adults
It is wonderful when adults get involved,
especially if the children are young or shy. Often seeing mummy
or daddy joining in will break the ice.
Dangerous Items
Make
sure you either lock the following items away from children or
don’t supply them.
Party Poppers
Sparklers
Dartboard and Darts
Medicine
Knives
Drugs and Alcohol
Weapons
Piñatas
Piñatas
can be great fun but they need to be properly supervised by an
adult other than the performer.
Prizes
The
prizes supplied by Bilby are not recommended for children under
the age of 3. If you would like young children to receive these
prizes please seek permission from the child’s
parent or guardian and please ask supervisors to watch that young
children do not put prizes in their mouths.
Glitter and face painting
We do not recommend the use of glitter at
parties with children under the age of five. If rubbed into the
eyes or accidentally eaten it can be very dangerous.
Advise all parents and ask permission for
their child to be painted.
Craft Activities
Never have craft activities on the same table
as food:
Allergies/ Balloon Sculpting
Did you know that some children are allergic
to Latex balloons? Best to check with parents as they drop kids
off for the party.
Broken balloons are a chocking hazard for
children under 8 and are not recommended for use without adult
supervision.
Food
Ask parents if any of the children have food
allergies or if they have a specific diet for medical or religious
reasons.
Peanuts
With so many fatal incident associated with
peanut allergic reactions it is best to avoid peanuts, peanut oil
and peanut butter altogether.
Make sure when preparing the party food that
you have thoroughly cleaned utensils, chopping boards and the preparation
area making sure there are no traces of peanuts or peanut oil.
